Downton Abbey: The Movie

We are proud to have post-produced the sound on the 'Downton Abbey' for Carnival Films and Focus Features which is currently making headlines for its worldwide performance at the box office.

The sound was edited completely in-house, with foley and ADR recorded on our dedicated stages.

The film was mixed in our AMS Neve equipped Studio One and The Mix Stage at Abbey Road by Nigel Heath and Brad Rees.

"We all had such a blast working on the movie and it was so nice to work again with Executive Producer Gareth Neame, Producer Liz Trubridge and Director Michael Engler"  says Nigel Heath, "The film is a wonderful and natural evolution of the television series, which we also had the pleasure of audio posting at Hackenbacker. It was also a joy to mix once more with composer John Lunn who's fabulous score was recorded and mixed at Abbey Road Studios by Paul Golding and incorporated into the film's soundtrack here at Hackenbacker.

I have to take a moment to express my respect for the small but incredible editorial team here  for the incredible tracks they gave us to work with in the studio, and to Ollie and Alex for their superb ADR recordings.

We took the premix to a highly refined place in Hackenbacker Studio One, in fact we pretty much arrived at a 'final' during the premixing period before moving out to the Mix Stage at Abbey Road to do the Dolby Atmos and other versions. The Mix Stage is a lovely room. Everyone was really happy with how the mix translated, not only between Hackenbacker and Abbey Road, but also from Abbey Road to the 'outside world' with test screenings in some of the largest cinemas around sounding spot-on!"

Composer John Lunn comments "On any of my projects once I’m told Hackenbacker are in charge of the Post Production sound I can relax knowing that my music is in safe hands. Their ability to get involved in the emotional heart of a piece makes all the difference when it comes to combining my work with the dialogue and FX"

The final word goes to Executive Producer Gareth Neame "It was a pleasure to return to Hackenbacker with the Downton Abbey movie.

The mix with Nigel and Brad ran smoothly and efficiently. The sound editing and ADR contributing to the mix were impeccable and the final result sounded wonderful.

The transfer to Abbey Road's new Mix Stage for the Dolby Atmos final process was seamless - the two rooms being totally complimentary sound wise.

All in all it was the usual great experience with Nigel and the whole team at Hackenbacker"
